Verification/Screening Process |

Once a person is selected from the waiting list, they must provide infomraiton for all family members which is used to determine if they are eligible for housing assistance. The purpose of this verification and screening process is to make certain a person is eligible to receive housing assistance and that they meet the required criteria to receive such assistance (i.e., good prior rental history, credit history and no convictions for specified criminal offenses). Once all eligibility and screening process information is received and determined acceptable, a person is then referred to thehousing program they applied for. As a part of the screening process, all applicants must sign a release of information form and provide information so all screening steps may be taken. This screening process includes, but is not necessarily limited to the following areas:
- Verification of income, assets, exclusions and deductions from income
- Verification of family size, age and relationship
- References from two previous landlords on rental history
- Verification from utility companies that had of household is eligible to have utilities placed in his/her name
- An acceptable credit history report
- Criminal history of crimes of physical violence to persons or property, drug-related crimes or other criminal acts which would adversely effect the health, safety, or welfare of other residents (for the head of household and family members). This information must be provided by the Aurora Police Department and Illinois State Police. NCIC data will be utilized when that information is available to the AHA
- Record check to make certain the applicant does not owe the AHA rent or other monies or another Housing Authority any rent or other monies and to make certain the applicant has not committed fraud against any HUD Housing Authority program
- Record check to make certain the applicant does not have a record of being an unsatisfactory AHA resident or participant prior to date of admission
